About My Counselling

Water cascade with trees and autumn leaves

My counselling offers you time and space to talk about what is difficult for you. It's a chance to look after your wellbeing - to value and invest in it.

Just as important as the challenges you face are the feelings they lead to. These often go unspoken and lurk beneath the surface. They may hold you back and recur throughout your life. Some of the most important work I do is with clients who are wrestling with such feelings.

I also have a particular interest in working with people who have suffered a bereavement or other loss which isn't recognised by others, isn't talked about for some reason, or can't be publicly or fully mourned. This makes the loss even more difficult to come to terms with. In the words of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, “There's no grief like the grief that goes unspoken".

I have experience of working with a range of issues including:-

  • Abuse – neglect, physical, sexual
  • Bereavement
  • Birth-related issues – abortion, adoption, infertility, miscarriage, stillbirth
  • Bullying
  • Caring responsibilities
  • Changes or challenges
  • Childhood-related difficulties
  • Depression
  • Difficult feelings - anger, betrayal, envy, guilt, heartbreak, hurt, longing, rejection, resentment, shame
  • End of life issues - such as regrets, unfulfilled hopes and dreams, unresolved disputes, fear of death
  • Grief
  • Hidden struggles - around, for example belonging, identity and sexuality
  • Losses – around employment, health, purpose, relationships, sense of self and status
  • Low confidence and self-esteem
  • Perfectionism
  • Pet loss
  • Relationships – past as well as present
  • Sudden and/or traumatic deaths – child death, murder, road deaths, suicide
